Atal Bihari Vajpayee received the Bharat Ratna award in recognition of his contributions
In December 2014, it was announced to give Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In March 2015, the then President Pranab Mukherjee broke the protocol and visited Atal ji’s house and honored him with Bharat Ratna. Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been the Prime Minister of India three times.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee became Prime Minister for a short time in 1996, only 13 days, because he couldn’t prove he had enough support. He became Prime Minister again in 1998. But after 13 months in 1999, there were new elections because his allies withdrew support from him. On October 13, 1999, he became Prime Minister for the third time and served until 2004. He was the first leader not from the Congress party to finish a full term as Prime Minister. He passed away on August 16, 2018.
